Things to know when you are at the Women's Center

Welcome to the Women’s Center! a place for mutual support, learning, healing, nourishment, activism, and more. The Center is a shared space for all women and their children to use. We ask that everyone be considerate of others in order to make the Women’s Center a comfortable space for all. Please read and follow these guidelines to keep your and other women’s experience here a pleasant one.

  • The Women’s Center is not a shelter and cannot accommodate overnight visits. This includes not staying over in the backyard. We make no exceptions.

Consideration of Others

  • All women who come to the Center have the right to have their personal stories kept confidential. Please do not share the stories you hear here at the Center anywhere outside the Center.
  • Be respectful of and considerate of others, regardless of differences. It is up to each of us to help create a safe space for all.
  • Yelling, threatening, and intimidation are not acceptable and anyone exhibiting such behaviors needs to stop immediately or leave the building until she calms down.
  • To protect the health of others and prevent disease or injuries, we ask you to keep everything at the Center as sanitary as possible.

Personal Items are your responsibility.

  • Keep track of things of yours that have value. Please do not ask volunteers or staff to watch them.
  • Make sure your belongings are not in anyone’s way during your visit to the Center.
  • Personal belongings left overnight on the Center property will be disposed of.

Room Use

  • Leave the room as it was when you entered it.
  • Turn off lights (and ACs or fans in the summer) when you leave the room. Keep windows closed in winter.

Respecting the Space

  • Please clean up after yourself.
  • If you have a flier you would like posted, please give it to the volunteer and she will post it.
  • Ideas for décor changes are welcome but the premises may not be altered without prior consent from the staff.
  • Donations of tea, coffee, cream, sugar, fresh food, toilet paper, paper towels, dish and hand soap, etc. are truly appreciated.

Guideline Violations

  • If someone is violating a guideline volunteers or staff will respectfully remind the woman about the guidelines, clearly identify the specific problem, and request she adhere to the guideline.  If the person resists, she will be told the consequences if she refuses to cooperate. If the behavior continues, the consequence will be implemented.
  • We strive to practice a non-violent approach in response to challenges among ourselves. However, under rare critical circumstances, the police may be informed to ensure overall safety.
