Our Staff and Board of Trustees Community Guidelines

Who We Are

The heart of the Cambridge Women's Center is our dedicated corps of volunteers. This remarkable group does everything from answering the helpline to leading groups and program activities, keeping up with our social media, and helping with maintenance at the Center. Our volunteers include pro bono professionals from a wide variety of fields, as well as students from area colleges and women from all walks of life. Over 200 women and men donated their time and talents to the Women's Center last year!

Our Staff

We currently have two full-time staff members:

Jessye Kass is our Director of Programs, Volunteers and House Management. Jessye has more than eight years of direct service experience working with marginalized and underserved communities. Most recently she served as Residential Coordinator at the AIDS Action Committee, where she supervised four case managers, managed intakes, interviews and move-in for chronically homeless clients, and provided staff training in crisis management, de-escalation and resource utilization. Jessye has also worked in direct service in Ghana, Kenya, Thailand, and Waltham, MA. She is a graduate of Brandeis University.

Valerie Basnight is our Director of Development in charge of fundraising, events, and community engagement. She has 15 years experience working with schools, hospitals, nonprofit organizations and local businesses on increasing their visibility and profitability in the community. She runs her own PR and Production agency, L.I.R. Productions, in which she helps small businesses create a big impact. She graduated from Simmons College in the Fenway where she studied Psychology, Sociology, and Gender and Cultural Studies before earning certificates in Creating Your Own Business, and Social Justice Consulting where she specialized in organizational development, movement building and social change work. She can be reached at valerie@cambridgewomenscenter.org.
