Direct Service Drop-in & Group Leader Volunteers and Interns are the backbone of the Women’s Center.

We rely on hundreds of drop-in volunteers and interns each year to staff our Center.

Currently, we are operating our onsite drop-in only at 46 Pleasant Street in Central Square for limited hours. We offer supplies, T-passes, food, and resources at our front door, and can accommodate six people at a time inside or in our outdoor patio to use a computer, charge devices, print documents, and speak with a volunteer. Volunteers set up and break down before and after each shift, coordinate food deliveries and distribution, offer emotional support, resource referrals, and advocacy, clean, organize, and maintain the space, and ensure that support is offered with dignity and respect to all members of our community. Volunteers are expected to uphold CWC community guidelines and reinforce CWC’s mission, vision, and values.

The Cambridge Women’s Center is grateful to all our volunteers. They provide 100% of direct services - we are able to open our doors to the community because of our volunteers! Take a listen to Magali on her experience as a volunteer at the Women’s Center.

Think you might be a good fit? Before applying, please read below:

Some days are quiet, and others are hectic and emotionally charged. Just your presence alone allows us to stay open. There will be busy days as well as days with plenty of downtime. We expect volunteers to be flexible and able to adapt to center needs. Volunteers receive ongoing support and education through volunteer trainings and peer support.

As a drop-in & helpline volunteer or intern, you will:

  • Be a present advocate that is available to support our members by having conversations, maintaining a welcoming center environment for all members, and providing material support

  • Participate in cleaning, organizing, unloading food deliveries, taking out trash, and other household tasks

  • Provide emotional support to members

  • Assist with resource referrals and small projects

  • De-escalate conflicts and uphold community guidelines

I was able to help a person with a much needed employment insurance application. She was beyond thankful, and I was so happy to know that I had helped in a real way.
